| Following a marital or relationship
breakdown, there are often difficult decisions to be made about
children, money and property. To help them reach those decisions,
some couples find it helpful to attend mediation. This involves
the couple meeting in a neutral venue, where an independent mediator
will assist them in identifying issues to be discussed, exploring
possible options and moving towards a mutually acceptable solution.
The mediator can prepare a summary of any points agreed between
the parties - these can then be incorporated in a formal separation
agreement by their solicitors.
Caroline Smith is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as
a Family Mediator.
